    Default Shoutout to Stahlsac

To anyone who has ever wondered why you would lay out your hard-earned cash on a Stahlsac dive bag, let me give you two words: LIFETIME GUARANTEE!

This is the second time one of our bags needed fixing because the apes in airline baggage enjoy snapping things off them. And the second time it's been fixed for only the price of outbound shipping to Stahlsac. What's even more smile-worthy is the fact that we think other things were fixed as well, because there seems to be a few newish-looking bits n bobs on there.

So don't just look at the initial price tag when shopping for a dive bag. Look for quality in the company as well.

    Thanks, Stahlsac!

That is great news. I LOVE Stahlsac.

Every one of my soft dive bags are by them. We have a couple of the Catalina bags (best rolling dive bag ever), a couple of their mesh bags (still a terrible idea for wet dive gear) for local stuff and private boats, and I've recently re-purposed my Stahlsac reg bag to become my expedition spares bag.

I gave them mad love here not long ago for all the work they did on our Catalina rolling bags.

    These guys are the BEST.

Love them. Thanks for sharing your experience.

not to diminish the quality of bag construction or of service, but i recently decided to never again use my Stahlsac Catalina bag. I don't find the design particularly useful, and the bags are far to heavy for today's airline baggage rules. I have switched to REI XL duffle bags, and couldn't be happier

anyone want to buy a very slightly used Stahlsac Catalina bag? (used once!)

Oh, there's no doubt. The Catalina bags are way, WAY too big for airline travel. But for the local boats (like this weekend in San Diego) - I love 'em.

Me too. I now use REI duffle bags. Good inexpensive multi-use bags. But the zippers are not as heavy duty as they should be. I also use my dad's Korean war army canvas duffle bag that is still going strong.

Also, no disrespect to Stahlsac luggage. They have world class quality and service. I still have a Stahlsac mesh snorkel bag that has seen decent use for 10 years without a hint of wear.

If you want to shlep around a huge duffel bag, be my guest. Our Stahlsacs have literally been all over the world, including several liveaboards. Being soft they flatten down into virtually nothing except for "spine" at the back where the pull out handle & wheels are situated.

Frankly they are no heavier than similarly sized wheeled bags from the likes of Travelpro or American Tourister.

Anyways, if you don't like Stahlsac, go away! This is MY thread.

My duffels have been to Antarctica and shlepping through 5 airports each way was no problem. The Catalina bag weighs 11-12lbs i think, that leaves less than 40lbs for gear. The duffel wieghs less than 2lbs and folds down to a much less nothing than a Stahlsac.

    open thread boss!
