See, you were worried for naught.... you'll for sure see more of him for a while... in fact, this might just be the great equalizer!!! hehehe! someday you'll laugh and say how much you love the 'breather cause it gave you your dive buddy back

He was also a really good buddy to make sure I knew what to do in case of an OOA situation! He explained how the device works...what to expect, what to do, etc.
BTW, his backkick works....he just chooses not to use it. He is concentrating so hard that he constantly fins forward. He is worried about this month off thing...but we'll get some good practice up in Monterey when he's back! I think I will stop backkicking away from him...let him hit me in the face...and force him to use that backkick. All our dives together where I was finning into him and sharking around....it's payback time I guess

A buddy with an annoying blinkling light the whole dive. Almost as bad as diving with someone with a tank banger!

Yes there is, but it doesn't mean that you can get it ready ahead of time, I get mine all ready if someone call I turn my CCR on and go diving. You could setup a month a head of time is you really wanted too.
Teardown is another story you at least need to rinse and remove the head and dry it the sensor. With any gear there is a price to pay but in the end it's all worth it.

Hyper -- agreed on all points ***but I would add this --- don't pack the scrubber until the day(s) before the dive, and calibrate the day of the dive if needed (obviously when diving in altitude too).

Even if in a zip bag or Tupperware container, I will always pitch unused sorb that I packed the scrubber with after a week if not used... Over kill.... maybe... but sorb is cheap compared to the alternative..

So I do just as you with the exception not packing the scrubber and calibration of the cells.

Great points though. You can "be on call" for sure..

Gato's right- maybe a little more conservative about the sorb than me, but there's no downside to that, aside from cost. But the cells can drift out of calibration over time. I calibrate them the night before I dive, most of the time.
