I mount it in this fashion. The bungee at the bottom just keeps it in the right orientation and allows some flexiblity. I've done some with bungee loop at the top as well but I like the little quick link.

    Cheers
I prefer it lower than in Joel's setup. bottom of my AL lines up with middle of black sticker on Joel's plate. webbing or single strap to hold top, bungiee to keep valve in place and prevent bottle from sliding out.

When mounted higher it has a tendency to push into my back and occasionally obstructs dump valve access.

Guys - sorry to dissapoint but no sock puppets here, half the people in this thread know each each other personally and dive with the OP and his OCD (obsesive compulsive diver) personality.

Stdr - I have a custom adjustable argon bottle mount you're welcome to try out and see if it'll fit your needs.

    heh heh...

That's like asking Claudette (the Imelda of masks) how she likes the mask she's diving.

Or me, Geardilox if I've found a drysuit that's "just right..." (duh. of course not.)

I also have an extra set of 6cf argon straps that the OP can try out in a couple of weeks....

I have the same strap. I don't think it's proprietary... more like a DIY thing. Frank sews them on the heavy duty sewing machine then puts a grommet in. Done!

Yeah, that looks almost exactly like mine, only I mount mine a little higher up, and route my hose outside teh bungee.

I also heard a good tip that you can wrap some rope or cord around the holes in the backplate to prevent the plate from cutting into the argon bottle.

It should not affect dump valve if high, only if low. As to the back thing, I've had that on occassion only when the wing is fully inflated, that's why I went to the bunge on the bottom is gives it some "flexiblity". But one thing is for sure, this method will never result in a bottle dangling from a hose !

Not really ... just kickin' back passing time till I can go home and pack the car for Port Hardy (counting down the hours till we head out).

So ... tell us what you think of that UTD argon strap again. I might want to try one. All my Halcyon argon straps are so ... blue ...

    Duane,
I guess I should revoke your instructor card too then. I have pictures of you from class diving an al14 mounted to your doubles just like the setup I "had"

It's not wrong it's just not what I'm interested in DUH (the whole point of the thread!) Got rid of the 13 for something much smaller and tucked in out of the way. I don't want to mount it to the tanks so I was looking for how people are specifically mounting AL6's to their backplates. So far I have spare webbing, and bungee lying around so I'm going to try that route. As soon as I get back from this hell of a "vacation" I'm on.

This is how I have my mounted on my open circuit backplate as well. It allows you to reach the valve on the bottle when you have more than one stage bottle. Additionally, it keeps the tank valve away from the hip d-ring which makes clipping on the stages easier.

I made mine with a piece of webbing, a soldering iron, a couple of zip ties and a piece of shock cord.
