Default USS Oriskany in 3D - Project update

    Hi,
quick update on the USS Oriskany 3D.
Thanks to a member of another board, few months ago we were able to get the deckplans of the Oriskany.

We have been working hard in building the 3D model of the USS Oriskany and I would like to share with you same images of our "work in progress".

We plan to release the final 3D model at DEMA .... and you should be able to virtually dive it shortly after

    This is very cool . . .

On our Red Sea trip, we got our dive briefings using 3D representations of the sites, which could be spun and enlarged and otherwise manipulated to give the best view for the purposes of the briefing talk. I was absolutely wowed by what a wonderful method that was for briefing -- it resulted in the first wreck dive of my life that I actually UNDERSTOOD and enjoyed.

My husband is intent on eventually diving the O, and you can bet that, before we do, we'll be checking in with your model. Thanks.

Hi, could you provide me the contact for the dive operator?

Thanks. With our simulator you will be able to "virtually dive" the "O" ... even better than looking at a 3D model on a screen.
And if you are in a hurry ... you can use the simulated ROV to fly around the "O"

Definitely looking forward to this - Any chance you will be allowing penetration on the wrecks in the simulator in the future?

The dive operator was Red Sea Explorers, but the 3D briefing materials were prepared by HEPCA.

    Hi Tim,
we have a couple of wrecks with "limited" penetration ... C-53 in Cozumel and HMCS Yukon in California.
We are still debating if we should allow more penetration ... or not (liability issues)

I don't, but I'll ask Faisal of Red Sea Explorers.

I was wondering if liability was the reason - and I'm saving up for the drysuit got the undergarments, now just need the drysuit - I think freezing to death has been my most frequent cause of death in the game so far (with cold tolerance set to the far end) I'll get busy doing something and leave my character sitting on the surface only to return and find he froze - oops.

one nice thing you could add to the simulator would be the ability to adjust the visibility - the "models" are quite beautiful, but the "vis" due to the water in the simulator makes it tough to see. Perhaps add an option where the visibility is unlimited but the dive does not get logged? Just a matter of the opportunity to appreciate the wreck/site detail your artists have assembled without interference from the water. I know it's not "realistic" but it would be "pretty"

Looking forward to e-diving the "O" soon

    Hi Tim,
we did some tests here, and when the visibility is set to "unlimited" (yes, we can do this already ...) the whole scene looks very very very very weird.

We plan to add the capability for the user to "adjust a bit" the visibility of the sites ....... but no "unlimited visibility" .... for now.
