Luxfer: AL80 v. S80? Huh?

So apparently I've gone through life with absolutely no idea that there are two types of Luxfer AL80 tanks. A normal 7.25" diameter 80cf, and an 8" diameter S80, also 80cf.

Can somebody give me the low-down on these tanks? Are the S80s more rare, is either preferred or disliked for stage bottles, etc.?

The Luxfer S80 is a plain ol' AL80. S80 is just a model number. There is also the S80N or something similar that is a neutral buoyant AL80.

the "normal" Luxfer 80s are stamped "SO80". Those are 3000psi, the ones that are best for deco and stage bottles. There used to be a S80N (neutral buoyancy) version with 3300psi service pressure, but I believe Luxfer discontinued those.

S080 is 3000psi 77.4cf 7.3" OD

there are actualy three 80 cuft tanks that luxfer is tooled for.

first of all luxfer scuba cylinders start with S-xxx S-80 S-63 etc. S is for scuba whereas M is for medical

S-80 standard 80 7.25 diam 3000 psi

S-80N neutral bouyant 80 7.25 diam 3300 psi

S-80C compact 80 8.00" 3000 psi shorty

neutral never took off in sales at most they sold 300 a year. compacts were originally marketed through DACOR and then by luxfer but also were small sellers

S80s are the most popular size.
