Default How many Tech divers have a complete singles rig ready, right now

I'm not talking you gotta re-build your dub regs, or add another first stage to your deco reg, or dive your wacky Dive Rite uniwing with both your dubs and your single.

I'm asking how many Tech divers (presume doubles... RB is OK, too) have sitting in their dive locker a dusty single wing, a set of cam bands, and a complete reg set for a single cylinder - so you could (gawd) dive a single cylinder?

Yes, your wacky vacation Aqualung Yoke first stage with your crunchy neglected and Mares Micra or Ruby second stages count...

But you gotta have all of it. Single wing, cam bands (or BC, of course) and a full single regulator set. Ready to rock.

    Backpack hippies need not reply....

I'm just curious. More and more of my buddies are going to doubles rigs and it seems less and less of them have a single rig that's ready to roll without retooling and urban renewal.

I do. And will be diving it tonight. WET!

This year, I believe I have more dives in singles than doubles (and I've still gotten in close to 15-20 T1 dives). I just don't see any reason to dive doubles when I don't have to anymore. You simply do not lose the doubles skills overnight.

Not if you still have to re-arrange your doubles regs to fit that H valve as Blackwood does!

I do. Full blown DSS doubles set-up and a full blown DSS singles rig. I have dedicated regulators for doubles and a dedicated set-up for singles. I dove my single rig in the pool last weekend for an OW class, and I'll be in my doubles this Saturday and Sunday in the open water.

Obviously drysuit, light, fins, gauges, rubber chicken (etc.) cross over, but as for dedicated singles and doubles set-ups, yeah - I got 'em.

I do, it hardly ever gets used except for tropical vacations.

I'm in a different position than many tech divers since this is what i do for a living, but it has required the investment non-the-less.

I have a completely seperate singles set up for single tank diving. In fact most of our team here does. We use the Apeks WTX harness and WTX3 wing. It's rapid delpoyment, has weight pocket availability, crotch strap and belt mount for the light. I also have a dedicated singles yoke regulator for it. Aqualung Legend Supreme set up with long hose, necklace reg and single SPG. It uses Yoke since the bulk of our cylinders have yoke/din valves on them and its just easier.

The rest of my bucket is my standard gear bin with reels, fins, masks, lights, etc.

The singles set up travels with me unless the intent is to dive twins. Many times I will take the singles set up and 2 extra stage regs and some Deep Sea Supply speedy stage straps and now i have a full blown tech set up for flying 3 cylinders for most anything 150fsw and shallower.

I recall the days when all I dived were doubles. But it was different times and different locations. Now I do a lot of small boat diving, and some beach diving where the singles work just fine.

It's worth the investment to have a singles set up. It provides you with options that sometimes a set of doubles does not allow for.

    What's a tech diver?

I have my doubles rig ... complete with regs, a Fred T plate and a couple of doubles wings (DSS and Halcyon).

I have two each ... singles regs, DSS plates with plate weights, and singles wings (one Halcyon, one DSS).

I have two "warm water" rigs ... Dive Rite AL plate with Oxycheq Razor (30#) wing and a DSS kydex plate with DSS travel wing (18#).

Toss in two yoke reg sets (for pool and warm water), a couple spare singles wings and three STA's and I'm pretty much packing for whatever kind of diving I care to do ...

I do. My singles reg is DIN. The whole rig is Hogarthian, the only twist is the plate is a "Jet Harness" flat plate. Great for single tank diving.

At 50 dives, I thought I had this diving thing figured out. At 100 dives, I realized how wrong I was at 50.

I have a few. I find that I tend to use them more for teaching than doing 'fun' dives. For some reason, I most often use my 'tech' rigs.

I need to set one up for fun dives- the closest I can get is slinging an 80, monkey style. It works well enough. Come to think of it, maybe I don't need a single rig.....

    You mean something like this?

On the right is my LP Steel 125 with an H-valve, Abyss single tank wing and aluminum freedom plate. the harness has a shoulder release as my left shoulder likes it that way.

You might notice a DA Aquamaster with the Phoenix nozzle on it, but that can be swapped out with my standard primary deep reg. The back up reg is my normal deep left post reg but I have a mid 60's Posidon that sometimes goes there.

The rebreather and stage were a buddy's. Kind of old/new if you know what I mean.

    Pete
