As SB brought it up, I too have noticed that you can't pull the string as far on your older OPV, and it seems to take more force to do so - Was there a reason behind this Tobin? (As SB noted, just an observation of the difference) And how do the new OPV's compare?

Opening force is a function of spring rate and preload and the area of the poppet. We selected our springs to provide ~2.5-3 psi cracking pressure. This is a bit higher than some, but results in a more leak resistant valve.

In actual use a small amount of leakage from this valve does not impact function, but we test all of our wings by fully inflating them over night. Slight leaks in the OPV can lead to a lot of unnecessary trouble shooting.

Travel is a function of the geometry of the parts. Sufficient travel is required to allow venting faster than the power inflator can fill the wing.

If you "lean" on a Power Inflator and pull the string on the OPV your wing should not get fully "tight".

I prefer minimum required travel for a couple reasons, less likely to foul the valve with debris, and there have been cases in the past where long travel opv's stuck open because the seat retainer could catch on the valve base or outer nut. There have also been cases where the soft seat has become dislodged from the seat retainer. Limiting the travel helps to insure this cannot happen.

As long as you can open the valve to vent as required more travel serves no purpose.

Will do. For wings with welded fitting (H) and for previous DSS wings I have most of the info I need.

For the other possible combinations I'm still trying to see if I need to include the DSS produced outer nut in addition to the OPV assembly.

Have you started a waiting list for retrofits? Hint, hint...

Tobin- I see that you have these up on your website. Are they available for shipment now? How would one go about determining what they need? Do I just unscrew the OPV and look for a nut? If there's no nut it's the welded style, and if I see a nut I should order a new nut along with the new OPV? ...or is it more complicated than that?

Everything is always okay in the end. If it's not okay, then it's not the end.

I got mine today, and immediately ordered another for my doubles wing. Nicely made.
