Dude, where's your stuff? Did you get robbed? Is that supposed to be a work bench?

I resent organization. Okay, maybe I envy it.

Looks like my dentist's office. Nothing like any real workbench I've ever seen.

I've seen Ken's pad, once. Eerily clean.

I know I have a post-it where I wrote down a neat quote about lack of clutter here somewhere...

Its my office. Its the spare desk in my office. I use it for, you know, assembling stuff, cleaning stuff, PHOTOGRAPHING stuff...

    Clean is good.

Kalani - yeah... he's one of about 4 or 5 people that have breached the gates.

    Nice rabbit pics.

So you have quotes about keeping things clean? Let's hear 'em...maybe they could help me get motivated to clean my room. Place is a pigsty.

    Default Great Write up

Great write up, the tool, by the way, is a thing of genius - I can't imagine trying to do this without one.

Time to fab the ring tool: 15 minutes (including deburring and sanding)
Time to swap gloves for the first time: 20 minutes (had a couple slips that sent me back to step 1 twice)

    It was literally that easy.

Looking forward to diving with dry hands this weekend...

    Thanks

    CD

What did you use to cut the groove?

(ps got any spare pieces of ABS? Can I bribe you to make an extra one for me? )
Today I went to look at Drysuits... and came home with a tube of Aquaseal :(

Sure, I think I can manage another.
    PM me with your address.

    I used a table saw.

The blade kerf was about 3/32, a little more than I would have liked, but the end result was a very good channel which retains the o-ring well without trapping it.

I set the blade height to maybe 1/16... eyeballed it to be honest with you.

Set the fence at 3/8, about half the distance for a 3/4 ring

made many quick, short passes across the blade, until the channel depth was uniform.

then I cut the 3/4 thick section away from the rest of the flange

the sander took care of most of the deburring, I used an exacto blade for the rest, and finished with a sanding sponge.

after all the finish work was done across the surfaces, I went to the band saw and opened the hoop to facilitate the "squoosh".

The thing works exactly as advertised.

    Thanks again Ken!!!

    Cool, Thanks.

(Yeah and I wouldn't know what to do with a table saw other than make myself bleed)

BTW anyone have the part number and a 3rd party source for the outer O-rings that hold the glove on?

My tool is so ghetto. I cut the ring with a hacksaw while leaning the pipe on a stair with my foot. I cut my groove with the corner of a file. I rounded the edges with another rasp. I can't wait to see CollegeDiver's high end tool made with power tools!

Ben - I'd come away from the saw with 9 fingers.

However - if you find the number for that inner-ring - share it. I haven't found it yet. Did you try TDS? Lots of poindexters over there with Oring guides and hard copies of the McMaster catalog...

    God love 'em.

Was that a 4" I.D or O.D on the size of the tool?

    Ben,

If I get a hold of a piece of PVC I can cut a few of the tools. Maybe even use my router.

    Default ABS sizing

The ABS Coupling I am using is marked as 4" .

However, after a sidebar with Compu Dude, I measured the OD at 5".

A Table saw with a variable height blade adjustment works very well for both creating the O-ring groove and separating the hoop from the stock.

Can anyone cover the alternate A clamp method?
