    Welcome!

    Why wait for a trip?

Let us know where you live and we'll likely be able to direct you to some diving around you, where you can work on skills, explore interesting places and meet cool people. (After all, aren't all divers cool?)

    Thanks Fish.

I am glad to be here. I am in Novato, Caifornia. I was certified in Monterey but cold water does not really do it for me. I've done a little diving in So Cal. where it is a bit warmer. I'd really like to meet some local divers. I lost my dive buddy (my wife) several years ago after our younest son was born. She simply lost the desire to dive ?

Anyway, I am open to any and all suggestions and any advice on diving locally would be appreciated. Thanks again !

    Hi, I'm Tom

My wife got certified after we started dating, and she spent a long time getting used to diving. Now she's pregnant with #2, and has made about five dives in the past three years. So I understand what its like to lose a buddy to children

I was certified when I lived in Chicago in 1995. I had no intention of ever diving any cold, dark lakes. Now one of my favorite things is heading up to the Great Lakes and diving the wrecks up there. My last dive trip was actually to Chicago. Go Figure! Anyway, things change, and the longer you are diving, the more things you will do that you never planned on. Also, the reefs over there are colorful and filled with life. So its really just warm water diving with a lower temperature Cold water takes more work, but if you are wearing the right thermal protection so you aren't cold, you actually start enjoying the dives.

I'm not trying to be preachy. Diving warm water only is fine, I'm just saying don't rule it out because you might surprise yourself like I did.

I can understand the thing about cold water. But, I drive from SoCal to Monterey to dive there because you have some beautiful diving. Now don't misunderstand me, we have lots of excellent diving right here in the Los Angeles area, but a trip is always nice. Proper thermal protection is critical. A drysuit and drygloves with a hood by Cricket there in Montery and you are nice and toasty. So get in the local waters and enjoy it.

Did you certify in a wetsuit? Diving wet in cold water isn't fun. But Monterey has some of the most awe-inspiring diving I've seen anywhere in the world, and it's worth the effort (no, I'm not talking about the Breakwater!). You just have to figure out how to stay warm, and then you have access to amazing topography and breathtaking color. Take a look at some of the images HERE, and see if you don't get at least a little bit inspired . . .

Something must of happened because I wasn't able to log on to the matrix and my account did not seem to be recognized anymore. So I created a new account. Thanks Tom !

You are right. Cold water diving has a lot to offer and I'm probably missing out on some good dives. I just need to get the right suite and take the plunge.

I've read about diving the great lakes. It sounds awsome. My understanding is that the fresh water has preserved a number of wrecks and they make for spectacular diving.

    Thanks Again !

We drive down to Monterey from Reno a few times a year to enjoy the wonders at Pt. Lobos park. Though I dived a wetsuit there in my 30's now that I'm a few years older I really appreciate the warmth and comfort of a drysuit. Dry gloves make a big difference as do the aforementioned Cricket hoods.

One thing we realized early on is that if we want to be in this for the long haul we need to dive locally to keep our skills and interest up between trips.
