Default July 24, 2012 - Important: your DiveMatrix password has been reset, please read on!

    Hello DMX members -

As you may have noticed the Dive Matrix was taken offline for a few hours yesterday. We did this after receiving an alert that several sites on the hosting platform DMX is on were hacked and replaced. While everything is back up and normal, there are a few things you should know and do for your account... Please read on:

While it does not appear any user accounts were accessed, and DMX does not store any sensitive personal information like addresses, credit cards or even full names for most members, we have proactively removed all member passwords. To login you will need to reset your password by entering your username or email address on this page. This two step process insures no one but you has access to your account.

At the same time we also highly suggest that, if your DMX password is something you use with other sites, you change your password on these other sites as well. While our passwords are stored using a one-way encrypted format to prevent even someone with complete access from ever knowing what you entered - it is certainly the safest practice to change all your passwords regularly.

In the 6+ years we have had our community online, this is the first issue we have ever had with security. While this one appears to be limited to just defacing the site, we'd rather be genuine and cautious rather than vague or close-lipped where it concerns our member's accounts.

It goes without saying, I sincerely apologize for the outage and inconvenience.

Should you have any questions please just reply here or in Site Support.

    Thanks

    -Ken

Please note that while we work through this issue you may experience some broken elements / links / pages around the site as we upgrade each of our systems. If you do experience any of these bugs please just let us know.

How about linking to the password reset form in your post here. Some of us are cautious enough to be a bit suspicious of using links from emails.

So you're saying we haven't been hacked by Saudi Terrorists?

    DMX lives....

    :-D

    What a night.

People, if you're reading this - at this very moment you need to stand up and give a hand to Ted. Dude remotely shut down the attack, walked me through the DNS change, and preserved our data. I cried help, he answered the call.

Nicely done, buddy. Thanks for the late nighter.

Haha, no problem guys. Just sorry it took as long as it did to resolve -- if only they had scheduled this in advance

On a related note I see that some of you are having issues with the email for the password reset getting to you. To resolve the root problem we moved the entire site to a new server and need to get authenticated with ISPs which can take some time... In the meantime if you can't reset your password automatically just drop a note at http://www.divematrix.com/sendmessage.php and we can manually reset it for you.

    Thanks, Ted!

Hee . . . . I have to appreciate the irony . . . I couldn't log on, so I never saw the sticky . . . until it locked me out and showed me the links as a guest!

Thank you Ted and Ken. I know from personal experience how frustrating this can be. Well done.

    Trust the experts.

It's only 6 categorical steps from decompression illness to Administration of nitrous oxide.

    %-)

    Well...it couldn't hurt.

Thanks for doing whatever it took to fix the email/password reset system.

Finally got it to work last night.
