I very much like the X1 ... in many ways better than the Petrel. What I don't like is the reliability of the unit. I'm an early adopter ... and when my first X1 died they replaced it promptly. When that one died, they replaced it again. This latest one (#3) died on a trip in July. Fortunately I had a backup bottom timer to finish out the trip. When I returned home I sent it back to LV. Three weeks later ... just before leaving for Florida for a cave trip ... I got it back. It lasted one dive and died again. By then I was leaving for a trip, and needed a dive computer ... so I purchased the Petrel. My X1 is still in Burnaby ... Lord only knows when I'll be getting it back ... or how long it will work before it dies again.

I love the function. Reliability hasn't been a strong suit ...

I have never been left without my X1, but I have been through a few. Also an early adopter.

The newer generation with the dual depth sensors, and the two water sensing doodads located on the upper and lower sides of the computer instead of in the row on the right end are supposed to be far more reliable. This comment is attributed not to Liquivision, but rather Ross Hemmingway. He should know since he needs to deal with the software licenses for a computer when it gets replaced.

Currently I have one newer generation X1 and one older generation. The older generation continues to work in the water, but the battery is showing signs of age. When it does die I will likely replace it with a newer generation computer.

I still contend that the V-Planner Live software is by far the best dive computer software I have seen, and it is the primary reason I have stuck with the X1 so stubbornly.

At 50 dives, I thought I had this diving thing figured out. At 100 dives, I realized how wrong I was at 50.

So far, so good ... but I've only got a dozen or so dives on it.

Simple to set up and use. The screen is as easily readable as the X1 and the Xen. But I do find the dive log function a bit spartan. For example, it doesn't give you water temperature or surface interval time ... both of which I find to be useful information. I do like the fact that I can power it with any AA battery ... rechargeable or otherwise.

I know I've said this before, but I have one of the older ones with the small battery container and have no issues. I've updated software and have no complaints - probably about 30 dives or so between battery changes.

I'm so lucky to own a v5, I've been diving it since 2009 and it has always worked perfectly.
Back then when I bought it every body laughed at me, (at the dive club, I was the strange guy diving X1 instead of VRX) today those same guys own X1.
