I have seen a few 25 pounders come up off of NJ and from the wrecks around Block Island and off of Cape Cod.
Aqua Crazy Harvey Leonard ( passed 1998) was the master of enticing lobsters into his bag.
Here is a 25 pounder he brought up in the late 1980s on the wreck of the SS Oregon off Long Island, NY.

unfortunatley we don't have a larger image but look at that sucker !

Those are monster claws. WOW.
Huge bugs.
I can't even imagine a 25# lobster.

Largest bug I ever saw come up was on the Texas Tower off of NJ. The diver who brought it up was a woman who was about 5'1" and the bug looked bigger than she did in the water. In fact, she couldn't get it into a bag and brought it up by hand and I remember seeing it tumble her on her 10' stop when it did a few good tail snaps. But she didn't let it go. Joel, this was on the Deep Adventure II, Capt. Larson about 1989 or so.
Funny story
A buddy of ours was diving in the Redondo Beach (CA) Submarine canyon. I believe he was off his boat, bounce diving the deep rock piles.
I remember seeing a photo of the night's catch lined up: 6 fine, orange California spiny lobsters and one brownish Maine Lobster - claws raging.
He saw it there, living amongst the other bugs and had to grab it.
The thought was one of the local restaurants on or near the Redondo pier went all 'fly - be free' and let Maine go into the local water.
One of the funniest pics I've ever seen.
It wasn't a monstah Maine - but it was a freakish standout in a line up of SoCal Bugs.

Of course a Cape Cod Lobster knows how to sit back and relax BTW, this is right about 12 pounds and was one of 3 or 4 we got that day![]()
