Diver Steve knows his stuff!
Ulfhedinn,
Since the purpose of the higher-than-40% gasses is for deco, the best thing to do is take the TDI Advanced Nitrox + Decompression Procedures - two classes often offered as a combined class.
Actually, Dr. Hamilton even recommended that after spending a few minutes at a 1.6 ppO2 that divers drop the ppO2 to 1.5 to lessen the CNS toxicity risk.
Jax, the purpose of higher than 40% isn't just for deco. Advvanced Nitrox certs for higher than 40% yet involves no deco. What the class as a stand alone does is teach divers how to extend bottom time by using the best mix available for the depth of the dive to extend the allowable time at that depth. It's about reducing N2, not increasing O2.
Still seems silly to provide a 100% O2 card, but a MOD of 16.5 fsw, but all agencies do silly things.
