Default Video shooters - need some advice (New Nikon D7000 in the house!)

    Nikon D7000 in the house!!

I'm so excited I can't stand it. My new body rolled in today. I'm going to be glued to this thing all weekend for sure.

My Housing will be in first part of next week. So fired up. First new Camera in years.

This one has AF HD Video.

    I'm in trouble - all I own is CS4.

With the cam's ability to output video like this, I'm in trouble.

What are the entry-level Video editors out there? I'm on a MAC. Should I start with iMovie? Is there something else?

My objective is not to become a film maker. But I would love to shoot 40 or 50 seconds of sea lion wackyness on video to augment my stills - and I'd love to not be on the green team.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is entirely new ground for me.

    Thanks

    -Ken

Ken, this is about as uninformed second hand as you can get, but we went to a video workshop a while back and imovie was highly recomended if you wanted simple to use with good editing tools for the not so crazy video hound.

    Nice

Maybe I should stop blowing off the Mac updates for iMovie

I belive iMovie 11 is worth the upgrade if you haven't done so already.

I have imovie on my laptop. Don't like it so much (granted I didn't give it much of a shot). For video editing, I've settled on Edius (currently from Green Valley since they bought Canopus). It's $$, but it's really simple to use (compared to the others I tried: imovie, final cut, premiere pro), seems efficient, and at least for my amateurish 720p stuff gives me good results.

Ken, I've got a lot of info on iMovie vs other programs... feel free to pm or email me (or even call). I think if I delve into that topic here I might get carpal tunnel.

iMovie fan here. It's absolutely great for taking raw footage to edited videos in half an hour or so. Oftentimes, I spend more time looking for an appropriate music track to insert than I do with actual video editing (but then again, it probably shows).

Start with iMovie, Ken (what, Dr. Bill is recommending a Mac product?). No need to invest in more if that will do what you need to do. Final Cut Pro has been touted as an excellent program as well. Keep in mind this comes from a confirmed PC user!

no opinion on your actual question, but jameson liked the 'sea turtle, he's swimming' vid.
