Default VIDEO: Mola Molas off the Marine Room in La Jolla

We had a rare and brief encounter with Mola Molas while diving off the Marine Room on Sunday--here is a link to both the video and the dive report:

    Enjoy!

Oh, I'm envious! Mola Molas are still on my "to see" list.

They were on my 'bucket' list too!

I got to see a school of them when I was out kayaking last week with Claudette. They got completely screwed by evolution. It's like these poor fellas must have just been left in the corner and forgotten for about one billion years, then all of a sudden Evolution said, "Whoops, what did I leave here on the floor, better throw that poor little fella back into the pool!"
I think you guys are way over thinking this thing, if it was worth all this heavy brainiac thought, Tobin would be on here. Go diving. -- AzTek Diver

    Good point!

They don't seem very hydrodynamic in the water--I keep expecting them to 'fall over' any second--thank goodness they're in a fluid environment--but, even there, they look unstable--so, I was surprised at how fast they took off!

To be fair they swim upright and on their sides, so this proves that they are evolutionarily retarded.

Thanks for sharing the video, they are fun to watch afterall!

Cool to see a pair swimming in local waters that way. Coming back to Long Beach on the Cee Ray two weeks back, I couldn't figure what was floating out in the middle of nowhere.. two white hunks of something I couldn't make out.. then, maybe 100 hundred yards out as we got closer I could clearly see it was two Mola Mola's at the surface for a cleaning. Each had a bird on them pecking away. It was like a Discovery episode from as unlikely a place as the Express charing through the water.

Pretty cool to see how large they really are and to see the symbiotic behavior first hand.

Thanks for the video.. I sure wish I had mine that day. Nice job!
