- Dive History
- I grew up "on the beach" in Palos Verdes, CA and have been into freediving and body surfing since age 8. When attending Malaga Cove Intermediate and Palos Verdes High, I would often freedive before or after school. I worked at Marineland during high school and have great memories of freediving at Long Point before work.
I became interested in SCUBA after college while on a trip to Australia and diving on the Great Barrier Reef. After several "bootleg" and tropical resort dives over the years, I finally got a card while in Aruba in 2000 and had a life-changing dive on the 400' wreck of the Antilla.
After returning to California, I asked experienced divers "who are the best SCUBA divers in the world" and the answer was clearly DIR/GUE. I quickly fell in love with the minimalist, standardized DIR system. I was mentored by Woody Morrison, Marc Hall, Perry Armor and other early San Diego DIR divers, then trained with GUE for fundamentals, cave1, tech1, and tech2.
